Dit wordt jouw afdeling

Bij het RIVM werken we met ruim 2300 collega’s elke dag samen aan de zorg van morgen. Met zo’n 20 collega’s van de afdeling Veilige Technologische Innovaties en Circulaire Economie werk je aan het zo vroeg mogelijk signaleren en reduceren van risico’s van complexe nanomaterialen en zeer zorgwekkende stoffen in een circulaire economie. We ontwikkelen en integreren kennis voor onze nationale en internationale opdrachtgevers. Dit doen we in samenwerking met andere afdelingen binnen het RIVM en met onze collega’s in binnen- en buitenland.

Dit ga jij doen

In deze functie werk je in verschillende teams aan vernieuwing van de risicobeoordelingsmethoden en testrichtlijnen voor nanomaterialen. Dit in het bijzonder op het aspect toxicologie; het gedrag in het menselijk lichaam van en de blootstelling aan nanomaterialen. Daarnaast werk je in internationale gremia zoals in OECD-werkgroepen en H2020 EU-projecten aan de uitwerking van Safe and Sustainable by Design. Ook krijg je de ruimte om bij te dragen aan de strategie voor de beoordeling van nieuwe complexe materialen.

Een greep uit jouw werkzaamheden:

• Het beoordelen van de effecten van en blootstelling aan nano- of complexe materialen via consumentenproducten, de werkomgeving, voeding of het milieu. Het accent van de werkzaamheden ligt op de humaan-toxicologische risicobeoordeling. Ook signaleer je nieuwe ontwikkelingen op dit gebied;
• Het deelnemen aan internationale gremia zoals de OECD of EU-werkgroepen en andere bijeenkomsten;
• Deelname in Nederlandse en Europese projecten. Hier voer je wetenschappelijk onderzoek uit in multidisciplinaire teams, bijvoorbeeld over nanodeeltjes in voedsel;
• Je publiceert en presenteert je onderzoeksresultaten;
• Het mede-organiseren van het schrijven van signaleringsbrieven, samen met de nano- en geavanceerde materialen experts binnen het RIVM.

Principal Scientist, Nonclinical Safety Leader

The Nonclinical Safety Leader (NCSL) provides leadership within Nonclinical Safety (NCS) for all aspects of the global nonclinical safety development plan and its implementation for assigned projects in discovery and/or development. The NCSL is the single point of accountability within NCS to the Project Team and is the interface between the Project Team and NCS functional and senior management. NCS is responsible for the safety assessment of all modalities (e.g., small molecule, antibody-based, oligonucleotide, siRNA, and cell and gene therapies) within the Janssen R&D portfolio. In view of our expanding portfolio in new modalities, we are looking for NCSLs with a passion for one or more of these areas/modalities mainly focused on discovery and early development.

Key Responsibilities:

The NCSLs’ responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Developing nonclinical safety strategies for novel modalities and/or routes of administration based on an integration of the literature, regulatory guidance, involvement with professional organizations and strong scientific acuity.
• Represents NCS on discovery and/or development project teams, being the single point of contact within NCS to the project team for assigned projects and the interface between the project team and NCS functional and senior management.
• Leads the development and maintenance of the NCS strategic plan for (early) de-risking and safety profiling in discovery and/or development, as well as the NCS project plans (activities, resource requirements, budget and timelines) for the assigned compounds.
• Leads the NCS team, comprising of NCS functional area scientist that support the progression of the assigned compounds.
• Responsible for the overall quality and timely delivery of projects for the project team.
• Accountable for all global regulatory preclinical documents (e.g. IB, CTA/IND, NDA/MAA, CTD and responses to regulatory agencies) for assigned projects.
• Represent NCS at interactions with global regulatory authorities.
• Responsible for due diligence activities on potential L&A candidates.

Qualifications

• PhD in toxicology, pharmacology, molecular biology or related field with at least 6 years pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience is require
• Experience representing toxicology/nonclinical safety on Project Teams is required.
• Strong in verbal and written communication and personal leadership skills, pro-active and flexible attitude, strong sense of urgency and scientific curiosity is required. Independent thinker, yet also an excellent great teammate. Experience in working in a matrixed and global environment
• Experience as a Study Director/Study Monitor conducting/monitoring toxicology studies under Good Laboratory Practice regulations is preferred.
• Post-doctoral training in toxicology, pharmacology or related field is preferred.

• Up to 10 % international travel is required.

We are seeking an outstanding, highly motivated and hardworking Senior Toxicologist to join our Toxicology & Kinetics (T&K) team in Kaiseraugst, Switzerland.

You will be a key contributor to aid the selection of new DSM products in a diverse range of substances such as industrial chemicals, food/feed additives, cosmetic ingredients, and dietary supplements. You will  be responsible for optimal design and execution of safety testing strategies from candidate selection to the registration. You will represent T&K in project teams and collaborate closely with other R&D areas and affiliated regulatory functions. You will identify potential toxicity-related hurdles to candidates development, design contingency plans and communicate solutions. You will integrate knowledge and lead comprehensive investigations of all tox-related activities including strategic planning, designing of studies and data integration into phase transition and regulatory documents.

Your mission is to

• Collect and evaluate pre-clinical safety data involving tox databases and digital tools (QSARs) and perform data gap analysis.

• Conduct risk assessments based on the estimated exposure calculations,  derive  reference doses such as ADI, OELs, DNELs and contribute to safety dossiers for regulatory submissions (US GRAS, FAP, and NDI filings, EU Novel Food applications).

What experience are we looking for?

• 10+ years’ experience in international business or regulatory agencies, preferably in the food/feed area, if this is not the case it will need to be a related area e.g. cosmetics.

De afdeling Voedselveiligheid van het RIVM richt zich op de risicobeoordeling van chemische stoffen in voedsel, diervoeder en drinkwater en de hierop gebaseerde beleidsadvisering. Wij zijn op zoek naar een gedreven wetenschappelijk medewerker met hart voor het publiek belang, de volksgezondheid in het bijzonder. Je draagt bij aan chemische voedselveiligheid in samenwerking met partners wereldwijd.

Als wetenschappelijk medewerker bent je betrokken bij de methodeontwikkeling voor en toepassing van risicobeoordeling van chemische stoffen in voedsel en de daarop gebaseerde beleidsadvisering voor de verantwoordelijke ministeries. Het gaat hierbij onder andere om resten van gewasbeschermingsmiddelen, milieucontaminanten en voedseladditieven. Je overziet de ontwikkelingen op het gebied van voedselveiligheid en overziet het mondiale speelveld. Je weet welke partijen een rol spelen bij voedselveiligheid. Je hebt een internationaal netwerk op dit terrein of bent in staat dit vlot op te bouwen.
