Doel van de functie
Voedselveiligheid is een zeer dynamisch vakgebied. We hebben bijvoorbeeld te maken met blootstelling en risico’s van gewasbeschermingsmiddelen op voedsel of in de voedselproductie. Daarnaast veel aandacht voor gelijktijdige blootstelling aan meerdere stoffen en/of gelijktijdige blootstelling via verschillende routes en verhoogde aandacht voor (milieu-)contaminanten zoals PFAS en zware metalen. We spelen internationaal een rol bij het ontwikkelen en implementeren van nieuwe technieken en gegevens in de risicobeoordeling. Onze ambitie is voorop te blijven lopen in deze ontwikkelingen. Daarvoor is uitbreiding van de afdeling nodig en versterking van verschillende expertises en competenties.

Afdeling Chemische Voedselveiligheid (CVV)
De afdeling Chemische Voedselveiligheid van het RIVM richt zich op het internationale speelveld van risicobeoordeling van chemische stoffen in voedsel, diervoeder en drinkwater. We vormen een samenhangende en collegiale afdeling van ongeveer dertig mensen. Ons dagelijks werk loopt uiteen van het uitvoeren van risicobeoordelingen van stoffen in voedsel, ontwikkeling van methoden hiervoor zoals blootstellings- en dosis-responsmodellering, deelname aan internationale expertgroepen, tot inzet in grote EU projecten.
Wij zijn op zoek naar een nieuwe collega met hart voor het publiek en volksgezondheid belang en de voedselveiligheid in het bijzonder.

Werkzaamheden en taken
Als senior wetenschappelijk medewerker toxicologie bij de afdeling CVV ben je betrokken bij en geef je leiding aan meerdere projecten in opdracht van de ministeries van VWS of LVVN of de NVWA, of werk je in internationale projecten. Je werkt zelfstandig en in teamverband. Je voert risicobeoordelingen uit van chemische stoffen in voedsel, diervoeder en contactmaterialen van drinkwater, binnen het RIVM of in internationale expert-comités. Hierbij voorzie je de ministeries van helder beleidsadvies en/of handeling perspectief. Ook draag je bij aan de methodeontwikkeling voor de risicobeoordeling van chemische stoffen. Dat gaat daarbij onder meer om nieuwe methodes voor mengselrisicobeoordeling, in samenwerking met andere partijen binnen en buiten het RIVM.
Afhankelijk van je ervaring kun je een leidende rol spelen bij het werven en aansturen van internationale projecten. Je werkt dan samen met bijvoorbeeld de EFSA, de Europese Commissie en zusterinstituten uit andere landen.

Op donderdag 26 maart a.s. organiseert de Sectie Arbeidstoxicologie in samenwerking met de Contactgroep Gezondheid & Chemie het middagsymposium ‘De toekomst van biomonitoring op de werkplek: een onmisbare stap vooruit?’

Biomonitoring biedt vele mogelijkheden. Tegelijkertijd roept het fundamentele vragen op over de praktische toepasbaarheid, betrouwbaarheid, effectiviteit, privacy, ethiek en de gevolgen voor beleid en praktijk. De ontwikkelingen rond biomonitoring op de werkplek gaan snel. Het advies van de Gezondheidsraad en van de Europese onderzoeksprogramma’s HBM4EU en PARC, laat zien hoe biomonitoring een centrale rol kan gaan spelen in de vroeg-signalering en preventie van beroepsziekten.

The 14th International Conference on Environmental Mutagens (ICEM 2026) will take place from September 6-10, 2026, at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC), Scotland. A new academic position in toxicology is now open at UCLouvain: Full-time academic position in Human and Environmental Toxicology.

The position is linked to the Faculties of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences and combines teaching toxicology to biologists and pharmacists, with the opportunity to develop a research program within LTAP (Louvain Centre for Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology).

LTAP is located in a modern research tower inaugurated in 2018 in Brussels. We provide access to state-of-the-art facilities, including ICP-MS/MS, mass spectrometry, RNA/DNA sequencing, flow cytometry, advanced imaging platforms, and brand-new infrastructure for in vitro and in vivo studies. The center is part of IREC, directly connected to a university hospital, offering privileged access to human samples and innovative technological platforms.

Vacature Collegelid Waterkwaliteit en Milieu

Functieomschrijving
Het College voor de toelating van gewasbeschermingsmiddelen en biociden (Ctgb) zoekt een ervaren deskundige op het gebied van waterkwaliteit en milieutoxicologie die als collegelid plaats wil nemen in het college. Verspreiding van gewasbeschermingsmiddelen en biociden in het milieu en effecten daarvan zijn belangrijke elementen in de risicobeoordeling en staan ook in het middelpunt van de maatschappelijke belangstelling. De aandacht voor de kwaliteit van oppervlaktewater, grondwater en drinkwater is hoog. Het is daarbij van belang om up to date kennis vertegenwoordigd te hebben in het college.

Over het College voor de toelating van gewasbeschermingsmiddelen en biociden

We zijn een zelfstandig bestuursorgaan dat unieke taken uitvoert: we beoordelen, volgens in de wetgeving verankerde criteria en internationale afspraken, of gewasbeschermingsmiddelen en biociden – bij juist gebruik – aan de gestelde veiligheidseisen voor mens, dier en milieu voldoen. En of ze werkzaam zijn. Op grond van deze beoordeling besluit het college of middelen in Nederland verkocht en gebruikt mogen worden. Verder stellen we duidelijke voorschriften verplicht, die minimaal op het etiket moeten staan. Daarnaast heeft het college een beleidsadviserende rol, zowel gevraagd als ongevraagd. Het college stelt daarnaast het werkplan, de begroting, het jaarverslag en de jaarrekening van de organisatie vast. We werken binnen de context van Europese regelgeving en onze medewerkers hebben een hoog specialistisch kennisniveau.

Dit ben jij

• Een ervaren deskundige op het gebied van waterkwaliteit en de blootstelling en verspreiding van stoffen en middelen in onze leefomgeving. Bij voorkeur met een academische positie als hoogleraar of universitair docent.

• Een gedegen wetenschappelijke achtergrond en ervaring op het gebied van risicobeoordeling is vereist. Kennis van risicomanagement is een pré.
• Bekendheid met de toepassing en gebruik van gewasbeschermingmiddelen en/of biociden en de milieurisico’s van gewasbeschermingmiddelen en biociden; in het bijzonder met betrekking tot het aquatisch milieu.
• Een aantoonbare interesse in internationale ontwikkelingen en innovaties.
• Affiniteit met het openbaar bestuur en politiek-bestuurlijke ervaring binnen dit terrein is een pré.
• Kennis van de (Europese) toelatingssystematiek van gewasbeschermingsmiddelen en biociden is een pré.
• Je bent in staat onafhankelijk een oordeel te vormen en bent besluitvaardig.
• Je hebt een teamgerichte instelling en kunt goed communiceren.

Dit bieden wij je
Vergoeding:                        € 2404,20 per maand (20% van het maximum schaal 18 Cao Rijk)
Contractduur:                     De collegeleden worden benoemd door de minister van LVVN voor een periode van 4 jaar. Leden zijn ten hoogste tweemaal herbenoembaar.

Bijzonderheden:

• Het college vergadert maandelijks. De werkzaamheden van een collegelid vergen een tijdsbeslag van gemiddeld 1 dag per week. Het college kiest na aanstelling van de nieuwe kandidaten uit haar midden een plaatsvervangend voorzitter.
• Kandidaten die functies bekleden of werkzaamheden verrichten die onverenigbaar zijn met het lidmaatschap van het college komen niet in aanmerking voor deze functie.

De organisatie - College voor de toelating van gewasbeschermingsmiddelen en biociden

Het Ctgb is een uitvoeringsorganisatie. De minister van Landbouw, Visserij, Voedselzekerheid en Natuur is onze eigenaar en beleidsverantwoordelijk voor de toelatingssystematiek voor gewasbeschermingsmiddelen. De minister van Infrastructuur en Waterstaat is beleidsverantwoordelijk voor de toelatingssystematiek voor biociden. Daarnaast zijn de ministers van Volksgezondheid, Welzijn en Sport (VWS) en Sociale Zaken en Werkgelegenheid (SZW) beleidsverantwoordelijk voor de aspecten volksgezondheid en arbeidsomstandigheden. Het Ctgb neemt beslissingen op basis van (Europese) wet- en regelgeving van gewasbeschermingsmiddelen en biociden en op basis van nationaal vastgesteld beleid van de 4 betrokken departementen.
Het college bestaat thans uit een voorzitter en 8 leden. Het college wordt ondersteund door een secretariaat dat de adviezen voorbereidt. Het secretariaat heeft een omvang van ca. 162 fte en wordt geleid door een directeur en drie MT-leden. De directeur treedt tevens als secretaris van het college op. Het secretariaat bestaat uit experts op de gebieden humane toxicologie, milieu, werkzaamheid en chemie die in interdisciplinaire teams samen werken (binnen afdelingen gewasbeschermingsmiddelen en biociden) en een afdeling bedrijfsvoering.

De kwaliteit van de besluiten door het Ctgb moet zowel wetenschappelijk inhoudelijk als procedureel juridisch van hoog niveau zijn. Daarnaast is ook een doelmatig en doeltreffend besluitvormingsproces van belang.

De maatschappelijke verantwoordelijkheid van het college is groot, omdat zij bijdraagt aan een verantwoord gebruik van gewasbeschermingsmiddelen en biociden op nationaal en Europees niveau met het oog op de veiligheid van mens, dier en milieu. Daarbij betrekken we ook ontwikkelingen op het gebied van duurzaamheid, laag-risico-middelen, moleculaire biologie en innovatieve technieken. De werkzaamheden van het college zijn breed vertakt en de organisatie maakt deel uit van een dynamisch en internationaal netwerk. De politieke en maatschappelijke belangstelling voor het werk van het Ctgb is groot en het Ctgb onderhoudt dan ook vele contacten met de stakeholders. Binnen deze brede scope komt het college tot besluitvorming, binnen de daarvoor gestelde wettelijke kaders en procedures, en neemt daarbij risico management overwegingen mee.

Binnen het krachtenveld opereren zeer diverse partijen zoals bedrijven en milieu- en consumentenorganisaties, maar ook departementen, inspecties, researchbureaus, internationale commissies en gerenommeerde onderzoeksinstellingen. Het Ctgb heeft te maken met verschillende en vaak tegengestelde belangen. Vanwege de harmonisatie van voor het Ctgb relevante regelgeving en het beoordelingsproces binnen Europa, is er sprake van toenemende samenwerking en afstemming tussen zusterinstituten binnen de overige lidstaten. Door de lange ervaring en hoge kwaliteit heeft het Ctgb een vooraanstaande positie binnen Europa verworven.

Het college bestaat uit onafhankelijke deskundigen en collegeleden doen hun werk op persoonlijke titel. Besluitvorming in het college vindt zoveel mogelijk op collegiale basis plaats. Het college streeft naar een diverse samenstelling en dat verband worden jongere kandidaten en/of kandidaten met een diverse culturele achtergrond nadrukkelijk uitgenodigd om te solliciteren.

Your key responsibilities:
Strategic leadership:

• Provide toxicology thought leadership and develop/implement the global toxicology strategy in alignment with S&R, BUs and regulatory objectives. Serve

Scientific leadership:

• Lead risk assessment, management and mitigation strategies for innovation projects and existing products.

Regulatory support:

• Responsible for the Group Toxicology budget and resource management to secure proper allocation according to BU priorities and needs.

External Engagement:

• Represent the company in key strategic meetings with regulatory authorities, customers, in external scientific committees, and registration consortia.
• Strategically build and maintain external and internal scientific networks (e.g., regulatory bodies, institutions, national & international toxicological societies), leverage external KOL with specific toxicological expertise and knowledge.

This role requires strong influential & managerial skills in contact with senior leadership and stakeholders in S&R, BUs, BU & Group Regulatory Affairs Leadership and Business partners; This position is also required to develop/manage relationships with customers and other external bodies like scientific associations and governmental authorities.

Radboudumc in Nijmegen is looking for a Professor of Pharmacology-Toxicology who will continue and renew our long tradition and strong international reputation in this field. You will have the opportunity to make a unique mark on pharmacological and toxicological research and lead an independent and innovative team with a large national and international network.

The goal for the professor is clear: to translate molecular-based knowledge about mechanisms of action and the disposition of drugs into clinical research. In doing so, we will contribute directly to more effective, safer and more individualised therapies. This fits in perfectly with its mission to have a significant impact on healthcare by using personalised and innovative approaches.

Your place in the organisation
You will be working in the new Pharmacy-Pharmacology Toxicology department, which was recently formed by merging the Pharmacology-Toxicology and Pharmacy departments. This merger creates unique opportunities for collaboration between disciplines – from molecules to humans to populations.

Your research will be aligned with the strategic theme of Molecular Mechanisms of Diseases and New Treatments and with the activities of other research groups within the department. There is also a clear link with the national sector plan Medicines and ATMPs: Therapy Development for Rare Diseases.

In addition to your core task in research, you will play a leading role in teaching pharmacology and toxicology within the relevant Radboudumc curricula. You will maintain close ties with Radboud University and TU Twente, and you will be an important bridge to teaching medicinal chemistry and toxicology at the Faculty of Science, Mathematics and Computer Science at Radboud University.

What we are looking for
We are looking for a professor who meets the Radboudumc criteria for a Research Group Leader (RGL). You will be appointed as an RGL and will play a central role in expanding molecular pharmacological and toxicological research.

Our future professor of molecular pharmacology and toxicology is an inspiring leader who brings out the best in people. You are visible, accessible and know how to promote a culture of cooperation and trust. You take initiative, think in terms of possibilities and encourage the team to be ambitious and innovative. Your attitude is connecting: you actively seek cooperation with colleagues within and outside the department, contribute to an open academic atmosphere and strengthen the bridge between fundamental research and clinical practice.

You have sharp strategic insight and can set priorities that further strengthen the department's research profile. In addition, you combine academic excellence with administrative sensitivity: you understand the dynamics of a university medical setting and know how to create support among researchers, clinicians and external partners.

The candidate:

• Has a background in pharmaceutical, (bio)medical or life sciences with demonstrable expertise in molecular pharmacology and (medical) toxicology;
• Is an internationally recognised expert in this field, as evidenced by a strong track record in scientific publications, successful supervision of PhD students and demonstrable ability to attract external funding;
• Complements the existing clinically and pharmacologically oriented research groups within the department and demonstrably contributes to strengthening the translational pharmacological domain;
• Meets the Radboudumc criteria for a Research Group Leader (RGL);
• Has management experience and financial knowledge to lead the research group and supervise its resources and activities;
• Has a university teaching qualification (BKO) or is willing to obtain one in the short term;
• Has proven experience as a board member of a public, social or scientific organisation.

Terms of employment
This is a permanent position with reappointment as professor after 5 years. As a professor, you will be placed in scale 16 of the collective labour agreement: between €8110-€10545
(36 hours a week).
