The Research group RAPID (Risk Analysis for Products In Development) specialises in multidisciplinary projects on the assessment of health risks due to potentially hazardous exposures from all environments and sources, including at work, in the general environment, as well as via intake of food or drugs. RAPID consists of around 50 members with expertise in numerous fields including toxicology, epidemiology, exposome, chemistry, occupational hygiene, and statistics. By combining risk analysis, statistical expertise, and practical experience in various fields of experimental research, RAPID develops innovative, science-based tools, models, and methods to predict potential risks accurately and efficiently. Ultimately, RAPID research focusses on reducing risks and improving human health. This is achieved by RAPID\u2019s active involvement in endeavours such as advising on applying safe- and sustainable-by-design principles for products and processes, exposure reduction measures, as well as generating actionable knowledge for policymakers and other stakeholders. The prediction of human health risks is more and more based on modeling to reduce costs and to speed up the assessment process. RAPID combines its risk analysis and modelling expertise with practical experience in the field of innovative experimental research (toxicology, chemical analysis, human exposure). Integrated approaches are being developed to optimize the prediction of human health risks and reduce animal testing. These approaches also allow us to identify potential risk of products early in their development (safe by design), compare scenarios and to gain insight in the effects of prevention measures.<\/p>\n

Within RAPID, the team \u2018Safe-by-Design\u2019 works on the development of innovative methods to improve the prediction of hazards and health risks related to chemical exposure with the ultimate aim to prevent or limit the occurrence of diseases. The team work in various (inter)national research projects to further refine Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) and Next Generation Risk Assessment (NGRA) approaches. The team also assists chemical, food and pharma companies as well as governments in evaluating chemical safety issues related to occupational or environmental exposures.<\/p>\n

We are currently looking for a Toxicologist to expand our Safe-by-Design team. As a toxicologist, you will play a key role in the retrieval and interpretation of toxicological data based on literature, in silico methods, and in vitro methods, and to translate this data into clear recommendations for our clients. In addition, you will play a role in the initiation of a SbD screening facility in cooperation with our TNO departments in Leiden. You will work closely with other experts in the team such as the exposure scientists and data scientists. The ideal candidate is passionate about toxicology, loves translating experimental data but is also critical towards data and able to quickly subtract the relevant details, enjoys working in a multidisciplinary setting and is eager to expand current knowledge and best practices.<\/p>\n
