Committee members

We are starting to form the organizing committee for the NVT Annual Meeting 2026 and would very much like to invite you to consider joining us! We are still looking for 4-5 persons to form a diverse, enthusiastic team of young scientists, PhD candidates, but also for early-career professionals working in toxicology, both from academia, (semi)-government or industry. Being part of the committee is a great way to expand your network, develop new skills, and contribute to a meeting that brings our community together. We will start with an informal “get to know each other” meeting where we can share ideas, discuss expectations, and see whether joining the committee would be a good fit for you. Interested? Every toxicologist, regardless of whether they are active in academia, industry, or the regulatory field, has had to deal with research results not being applicable to everyone. This can be due to a specific study design or exclusion of certain individuals from participating in research. Even in present day drug development, we see examples of widespread adverse effects after compounds have entered the market, because large groups of the population are being left out in (clinical) studies. Standard research, one size, does not fit all. But what should we do? How can we address this? And what can we do to be more inclusive?

This annual NVT meeting will highlight the progress made and challenges ahead spanning different fields of toxicology. We will focus on selecting the right study design and discuss how toxicology can be more inclusive. We will cover all sizes: from nanoparticles to biomaterials and from personalized medicine to population risk assessment.

All participants are encouraged to submit an abstract to present their research via a pitch or poster (instructions will follow). We are happy to invite you to the meeting at Congresscentrum de Reehorst, Ede. The date for the ‘young scientists’ day is June 7th. The ‘NVT-member’ day, including the annual NVT business meeting, is scheduled for June 8th.

The European Green Deal sets the EU on a course to become a sustainable climate neutral and circular economy by 2050. An important part of the Green Deal is the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability. It is a first step towards the EU’s zero pollution ambition for a “toxic-free” environment. How will this strategy impact the field of toxicology? And vice versa? During the annual scientific meeting of the NVT several important aspects of the Chemicals Strategy will be discussed; Safe-by-design, next generation risk assessment, non-standard endpoints, and the policy-science interface. As toxicology matters to all, every toxicology sector will be covered by tackling these important aspects.
