Op donderdag 26 maart a.s. organiseert de Sectie Arbeidstoxicologie in samenwerking met de Contactgroep Gezondheid & Chemie het middagsymposium ‘De toekomst van biomonitoring op de werkplek: een onmisbare stap vooruit?’

Biomonitoring biedt vele mogelijkheden. Tegelijkertijd roept het fundamentele vragen op over de praktische toepasbaarheid, betrouwbaarheid, effectiviteit, privacy, ethiek en de gevolgen voor beleid en praktijk. De ontwikkelingen rond biomonitoring op de werkplek gaan snel. Het advies van de Gezondheidsraad en van de Europese onderzoeksprogramma’s HBM4EU en PARC, laat zien hoe biomonitoring een centrale rol kan gaan spelen in de vroeg-signalering en preventie van beroepsziekten.

Tijdens het symposium ‘De toekomst van biomonitoring op de werkplek: een onmisbare stap vooruit?’ nemen vijf sprekers u mee in de actuele stand van zaken, praktijkervaringen, (inter)nationale richtlijnen en nieuwe technieken.

The 14th International Conference on Environmental Mutagens (ICEM 2026) will take place from September 6-10, 2026, at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC), Scotland. Organized by EEMGS and UKEMS under the IAEMGS, the meeting will focus on "Blending new technology with traditional genotoxicity approaches to solve real-world problems". The program will feature 30 symposia, 10 plenary lectures, and interactive poster sessions exploring genome damage mechanisms, AI-driven bioinformatics, innovative in vitro models, and regulatory advances. Alongside scientific sessions, attendees will enjoy networking opportunities, social events, and a gala dinner at the National Museum of Scotland.

Following the feedback from last year’s Annual Meeting, we are excited to announce that this year’s edition will focus on the critical topic microplastics where leading experts will dive deeper into this rapidly evolving field.  The theme of the meeting is ‘Unmasking Microplastics: Impacts, Challenges and Implications for (Eco)Toxicology’.

We are delighted to be co-organizing this year’s edition for the second time with the Belgian Environmental Mutagen Society (BEMS) on the 4th of December at Sciensano premises in Brussels (Auditorium Storck, Rue Ernest Blerot, 1070 Anderlecht).

During this event, you will receive an introduction and general concepts of  to the field of microplastics, you will gain insights into cutting-edge detection methodologies, including Pyr-GC/MS coupled with sp-ICP/MS and various microscopy techniques, and together we will explore the presence and impact of microplastics in agricultural soil.

Furthermore, we will discuss the interdisciplinary advancements in ecotoxicology, analytics, and human health related to microplastics. We will also address toxicity through in vivo and alternative models, as well as the significant challenges microplastics pose for risk assessment, specifically concerning data quality and health effects. The day will conclude with discussions on mitigation measures, insights into EU-funded research, and an awards ceremony before the meeting’s closure.

Similar to previous editions, a dedicated Young Scientists Competition will provide a platform for young researchers to present their work, and  you will have plenty of networking opportunities during the coffee breaks and poster sessions.

It’s our pleasure to cordially invite you to the 11th German Pharm-Tox Summit (GPTS), which will take place in Düsseldorf from March 17th-20th, 2026. Düsseldorf is easy to reach by car, train or airplane from all parts of Germany and neighbouring countries (e.g., the Netherlands). After the successful meetings of the last years, we aim to further develop the conference by maintaining high scientific standards and providing appropriate opportunities for scientific exchange and cooperation agreements. In particular, we aim to give young scientists the opportunity to present their scientific work and to expand their networks.

Abstracts can be submitted until October 1st 2025.

We are delighted to announce the third ELIXIR Toxicology Community Workshop on "Making toxicology tools more accessible and interoperable", 26 and 27 of March at the SciLifeLab, Uppsala, Sweden.

📢 Are you a toxicologist, bioinformatician or data manager working in computational toxicology and interested in learning more about computational toxicology and how it can be used for/with your own experimental data? 📢. Several toxicology projects, such as NanoSolveIT, ONTOX, and VHP4Safety, already make computational toxicology services available.

In this workshop, we will cover various aspects of making computational tools available and how they are used.

Find here a warm invitation to a two-day free of charge workshop at the SciLifeLab, organized by the ELIXIR Toxicology Community under the title Making toxicology tools more accessible and interoperable. This workshop is the third in a row of five workshops, designed in a user-centric way for toxicologists, bioinformatician or data managers working in computational toxicology and beyond and researchers interested in learning more about computational toxicology and how it can be used for/with your own experimental data. We will present existing tools for toxicology and user stories on data and tools to illustrate challenges and opportunities in toxicology these days. Genotoxic impurities in pharmaceutical products

The manufacturing process of pharmaceuticals is often based on a number of chemical reactions. During this process, byproducts called impurities may be formed that might still be present at low levels in the end-product. Strict ICH guidelines are in place to control these levels at acceptable amounts. The lowest acceptable levels are applied to potential genotoxic impurities. An example of such impurities that have had a lot of attention the last few years are the “N-nitrosamine” impurities. For example, since 2018, numerous lots of valsartan were found to contain higher than acceptable levels of N‐nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA). N-nitrosamines are often genotoxic and potent human mutagens. In this spring symposium, the invited speakers will give an overview of the challenges related to genotoxic impurities in pharmaceutical products, from a regulatory, academic, industry and patient communication point of view.

During the symposium there will be sufficient time to discuss and ask questions to the speakers and other attendees. We hope it will be an inspiring, thought-provoking, and informative meeting.
